News published on October 29, 2026. The situation may have changed since then.

Guadalupe Taddei is no longer the head of the National Electoral Institute (INE), the body that runs elections in Mexico. She submitted her resignation to the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Why she left

The Federal Audit Office (ASF) confirmed irregularities worth 514 million pesos in contracts with suppliers linked to her personal circle.

On October 19, the newspaper Reforma reported that Jonathan Navarrete Torres, registered as the official's driver, held a power of attorney for an INE contractor.

Taddei resigned with a four-paragraph letter without letterhead, according to La Jornada.

A statement that disappeared

The INE published the resignation announcement, took it down and then published it again, without explaining why.

Who replaces her

The INE council unanimously chose Blanca Yassahara Cruz García as interim president. She will serve for about four or five weeks while lawmakers prepare the permanent appointment.

What politicians say

President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out a crisis at the INE, but called for an investigation of the contractors of election materials, saying it is time to end the "electoral middlemen".

Morena asked for people linked to Taddei to be removed. And PRI leader Alejandro Moreno accused Morena of preparing fraud for the 2027 elections.
