News published on October 29, 2026. The situation may have changed since then.

Amazon released its third-quarter results (July to September) on October 29, 2026. It earned a lot, grew a lot... and its shares still fell.

The key figures

- Sales: $201.9 billion, up 12% from a year ago. - AWS, its cloud business: $46 billion, up 39%. It is its fastest growth in nearly five years. - Operating income: $28.1 billion. Its margin was 13.9%, the highest in its history. - Earnings per share: $1.89, compared with $1.95 a year ago.

Analysts expected sales of about $202 billion and $1.96 per share, according to the firm Pepperstone. Amazon came in slightly below.

AWS earned $17.8 billion in three months, more than Amazon's North America and international businesses combined.

Why the stock fell

Shares fell about 6% after the close, according to The Motley Fool. The reason is spending.

Amazon is sticking to its plan to invest about $220 billion this year, mostly in data centers for artificial intelligence. That is why its free cash flow over the last 12 months was negative: $42.4 billion more went out than came in.

Its long-term debt has nearly tripled since December.

What comes next

For the last quarter of the year, Amazon expects sales of between $240 billion and $247 billion.

Its CEO, Andy Jassy, expects AWS to grow more than 40% in 2027 and 2028. The company will also hire more than 300,000 workers for the holidays and raise the starting pay of its U.S. warehouse employees to $20 an hour.
