News published on October 30, 2026. The situation may have changed since then.

Sergio Checo Pérez has his Formula 1 job secured for several more years. His team, Cadillac, announced on Wednesday, October 28 that the Mexican will stay with them at least until the end of 2029.

Two more years on his contract

His previous deal ran, according to the British press, until the end of 2027. With the renewal he gains two more seasons.

Checo said that joining Cadillac from day one was a project he truly believed in, and that he is fully committed to the next three years.

The company's CEO, Dan Towriss, said Checo will remain a key part of the team for years to come.

A tough year on track

Cadillac is a new team: it made its Formula 1 debut in 2026. And it shows.

Checo is one of the three drivers without points so far this season, along with his teammate Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. Even so, according to Sky Sports, he has outperformed Bottas.

Checo Pérez is the third most experienced driver on the grid, behind only Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Race 300, at home

The announcement came in his most special week. On Sunday, November 1, at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, he will start his 300th Grand Prix, in front of his home crowd.

Checo is 36 years old and has six wins in Formula 1. He left Red Bull at the end of 2024, spent a year away and came back this year with Cadillac.

The weekend starts this Friday, October 30 with free practice. Qualifying is on Saturday, October 31 at 3:00 p.m. and the race on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., central Mexico time.
