Jay-Z will be the star of the Super Bowl LXI halftime show. The NFL, Apple Music and the rapper's company, Roc Nation, announced it on Monday, October 26, during the game between the Cowboys and the Eagles.
When and where
The show will be on Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles. It will be directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Roc Nation.
He finally takes the stage
Roc Nation has worked with the NFL since 2019 and helps produce the halftime show. But Jay-Z had never performed.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he only asked for one thing when they signed the deal: that Jay-Z perform himself when he felt the moment was right.
In his statement, the rapper said that going from his first album, Reasonable Doubt (1996), to the Super Bowl has been a long journey and a dream come true.
Jay-Z has 25 Grammy Awards, the second-most of any artist in history, behind only Beyoncé, his wife.
Bad Bunny's high bar
Jay-Z takes over from Bad Bunny, who headlined the February 2026 show. It drew an average of 128.2 million viewers, the fourth most-watched in history, and won a record seven Emmy Awards.
Who is Jay-Z
His name is Shawn Carter and he was born in Brooklyn, New York. Besides being a rapper, he is a businessman: he co-founded the Roc-A-Fella Records label and founded Roc Nation in 2008.
He was the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2017) and entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
